Light Unto My Feet

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path Psalms 119:105

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you Psalms 119:11

The word can be a bridge between life and death for us, between unbelief and belief, between the truth and a lie, between victory and defeat. A lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path truly. When we find ourselves in darkness or death the word can illuminate our path but it doesn’t always show us the whole picture. However, it will step by step lead you out of your captivity. It can take us from one place into another.

The Bible says if we hide his word in our heart, we won’t sin against him. What is sin against God? It’s unbelief. If his word is hidden in your heart, you can’t be lost you can’t stumble because it will illuminate your path. Sometimes we get in situations and circumstances that can cause us to step out of our rightful place in God and cause us to step into unbelief. But if that word is stored up in your heart and in your spirit, it will always rise up inside of you just when you need it, and it will override every lie of the enemy, and it will draw you out of the darkness. Darkness is not your portion. 1 Thessalonians 5:5 says For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. The bible says the Lord is my portion and if we are in him and he is our portion then we have everything we need.

I remember a time in my life when I was severely depressed because of some things going on in my life. I would lay in bed for days with no desire to get up or live. The only peace I had in my mind was when I was listening to praise music. I remember though periodically asking God to help me I’m hurting, help me I’m sad, God help me. One day I felt it lift like a blanket that was ripped off me, and I felt like he told me to get up we are done with this, and he gave me a supernatural ability to get up and go on. He spoke a word and with that word came power. It was like night and day. I believe I had stored him in my heart his word, his promise, his truth, and in my weakest and lowest moment he was made strong, and he quite literally ripped me out of my capivity and day by day I got a little better. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong 2 Corinthians 12:10.

It’s important to know his word. Even if you don’t know where to start. Find a little devotional book of encouraging scriptures and memorize them. Or if you have no joy google verses on joy, write them on note cards and read them when you are sad. Every verse you know is a weapon. Every verse you know is a light in the darkness. Every verse you know can immediately quiet the lies of the enemy. It sharpens your sword to cut the enemy asunder. It strengthens your shield to quench the fiery darts of the enemy. When I was a kid, I grew up in church going to Sunday school and Wednesday night church. We always memorized Bible verses I never thought much about any of it until I began to go through the trials of life, and I would find those verses popping up in my mind when I needed them. Never think what you do towards God isn’t good enough or not having any effect. It will come forth when it is needed.

129 Your testimonies are wonderful;
    therefore my soul keeps them.
130 The unfolding of your words gives light;
    it imparts understanding to the simple.
131 I open my mouth and pant,
    because I long for your commandments.
132 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
    as is your way with those who love your name.
133 Keep steady my steps according to your promise,
    and let no iniquity get dominion over me.
134 Redeem me from man’s oppression,
    that I may keep your precepts. Psalms 119:129-134

Be encouraged this week, have faith, have hope, God is fighting for us and he is on our side. Until next time I pray you are found in God’s blessings Heather Ridinger.
