The Rock

19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22.

Christ is our rock he is our foundation the cornerstone as the scripture says. What is your foundation? What have you built your house on? Positive quotes from a minister that make you feel good, family, your job, your finances, or is it this Christ and his truth? That he is the Messiah, that he died for our sins and because of his sacrifice we are born again and set free from the bonds of hell, death, and the grave. No matter what comes our way whether great or small if we are rooted in Christ if he is our foundation no winds shall blow us down, no waters shall overtake us, and no circumstances shall shake us. We will be like the wise man who built his house upon the Rock.

24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Matthew 7:24-27

Can you imagine the trust and belief in God David must have possessed to get in front of Goliath and know that he would prevail because he knew that he knew his God would not forsake him? He was so outmatched in the flesh that Saul tried to give him his armor in hopes of offering him some protection but that was not what David was familiar with. Instead, he went out there with what God had given him and what he knew to be true. My God is greater, my God does not fail, my God will not forsake me, my God is faithful, and with nothing more than 5 smooth stones and his faith he prevailed. That’s the relationship I seek to have. That’s the depth at which I desire to know him. That if my back was against the wall, I would know he would make a way of escape for me. I’m getting there he has spent the last few years especially this last year tearing me down and rebuilding me brick by brick not in man’s image but in his. It is a process but one he is faithful to complete. That doesn’t mean you are all the sudden going to be perfect or you won’t have issues or shortcomings in the flesh but hopefully it would mean we will develop a David like giant defiant faith. A solid foundation unshakable and deeply rooted in him and his truth. Where no lie could speak to us and have dominion over us, and nothing would be able to talk us out of our faith, our inheritance or our promises. Begin to evaluate what your foundation is and being to pray towards developing the foundation he desires you to have. Ask him to tear down false idols, and ideas we have set up in our hearts and minds that are not of him and rebuild us in his image so that when storms come, we would not be shaken.
