14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ. Ephesians 4:14
It’s so important that we make a meaningful connection with Christ that he be the most important relationship in our life. I know a minister who would always say it’s time to get serious with God no more playing or you are going to get left out. While I think that is a little extreme, I sit here thinking I get what he was saying about getting serious about God. There is a place of peace we can come to in God where even if things in our life or the circumstances around us start to get rough God can keep us at peace. A place where he can let us know before things happen. But the only way to experience that peace is to know God and to be connected to him. Think about Peter he felt connected enough to step out on the water. While he was focused on Christ, he was able to walk on the water. But when his attention and focus faltered, he began to sink. I think it is that way with us and I say this with an understanding and compassionate heart not one full of judgment. I had someone tell me one time I would be a water walker I would walk on the water of my problems, and I wouldn’t sink or be overtaken. That’s how God wants us to be. When I heard what the minister above would say it often discouraged me, they make you feel like you have to give up your whole life and your family everything that you find joy in to follow Christ that the two can’t coexist. I don’t see it that way anymore. When you place your life, your future, your choices, your will, and your desires in his hands and you cease to try and make things happen the way you want guess what? You are giving up your life. And in a far greater way then isolating yourself. You are practicing faith and the Bible says faith is the only way to please God.6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6
God says it is his good pleasure to bless us, he says that he will give us the desires of our heart does that sound like a God that wants you to be miserable.
32 “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32
4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
Often trying to establish a relationship with God like this can seem intimidating especially if you came from where I came from there is one way it’s the only way and if you don’t do it this way you are rebellious and you will never get anywhere talk about intimidating. God said it to me like this. Think about earthly relationships whether it be couples or friends you connect with each person in a different way. You even connect with each of your kids over different things. I think you need to find how you connect with God and work that till y’all are so close no one can tell you he’s not with you no one can make you doubt him. For me its music I love worship, I love music, and it has been a great way for me to enter in. Now can I be totally sustained on just worship not effectively. As I have grown, I’ve added in more word, more prayer, and I am becoming more well-rounded. But to some prayer comes more naturally or fasting or acts of servitude. Whatever way you connect with God don’t let someone tell you it’s less than how they connect. In my old circles it was fasting and prayer period and if you weren’t constantly doing that you were rebellious. Now I did it, but nothing quite lit me up like worship the experience I have when I worship is like no other. Now do I think those other things are beneficial of course but I think we need to let people work out their own salvation as the Bible says. No one can be your relationship with God you have to develop your own and it isn’t going to be like someone else’s because it’s yours.
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Philippians 2:12
6 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” Hebrews 10:16
Don’t be discouraged if your relationship doesn’t look like someone else’s and don’t be upset if someone doesn’t agree with or understand your relationship with God. Love God with all your heart find ways to connect with him like you would anyone else.
Until next time. I pray Gods love and blessings be upon your life.
