“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 1 Corinthians 15:55
I was listening to a song it was talking about Christ giving us life. It made me think back to a conversation about sin I had with someone. I felt like God was saying we get so hung up on all the things that are not important. The purpose of Christ wasn’t death and punishment that was the law, but Christ came to give life! He fulfilled the law, and we are free no longer can we sin because he has grafted us into a new covenant with him. I know people won’t like this but oh well the truth is the truth and if you receive it, you will be free! If death has been swallowed up and the punishment for sin is death how can sin coexist with Christ it was swallowed up. The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:56-57
It made me think about that verse I was once dead in my trespass and how we use it wrong at times boasting about fleshy works and how we are now saved because of all the acts we perform and things we don’t do. When all the while we are dead in the spirit and full of unbelief rejecting the gift and promise he is offering us.
2 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:1-10
Yes, we were dead in our trespasses until Christ saved us and on a surface level when you are first saved that is true. It’s good to change our habits and come away from things that aren’t praiseworthy. What people don’t tell you is just because you got saved doesn’t mean all the sudden you have power over all your old ways sometimes you do but other times it’s a process. I would challenge you to go deeper with God beyond your fleshy actions because God isn’t so much concerned with those as he is our spirit. I’ve said before it takes faith to please God. That being dead in your trespass is being dead in the law the old way the law was what we could and couldn’t do in the flesh, but we weren’t able to fulfill that, so Christ came, and he took on all our sin and fulfilled the law and now we are in a new covenant with him. So now we have been called to live beyond the flesh and to dwell in spirt where he is.5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:5-6
I say all this to encourage someone I see so many people bogged down by condemnation that isn’t of God worried about being a sinner and worried about displeasing God and they become either stuck and are never able to move forward or they lie and pretend to be perfect all the while being miserable and other times they just give up. Don’t give up death has no sting, death has no power, sin and shame have been swallowed up. Christ has come to give us life. Life is a mindset you must change the way you see God. You can’t look at Christ with Old Testament eyes. That was then this is now he saw that was too much for us and he sent us Christ he sent us the savior. With his grace and his sacrifice, he has given us the ability to enter in when we wouldn’t otherwise be worthy, he has made us worthy he has made us able. Let go of what you can’t control and walk with God daily. Day by day you will see a transformation even you won’t believe just from spending time with him. He is for us, and he is working on our behalf. I pray you are blessed I pray breakthrough and blessing in your tomorrows.
